Where are: Pyrgos is the tallest village of Santorini and is situated 10 kilometers in the south east of Fira.

Profile: The Pyrgos Kallistis, such as the full name of the village is meaning the most beautiful tower, is the old capital of the island and the newest castle of the Kastelia (castle cities built during the 15^th and 16^th century). The medieval aura remains alive in the streets and in the shadow of the steeples of the many churches of the village. A walk to the Pyrgos village will bring you closer to an important piece of the history of the island.

Attractions: In Pyrgos you will admire the mansions, the churches and the structure of a medieval castle city. Visit the museum of Yesterday's Santorini  of Giannis Chrysos and do not miss the monastery of Prophet Elias at the top of the mountain. You can go by car or by following the designated path leading there, the view and the feeling of flying above the island will reward you.

Food: Several choices for dinner that focus on proposals for genuine Santorini and Greek cuisine. Visit the Pyrgos restaurant with its fantastic view, Kallisti in the main square and the tavern Perasma at the entrance of the village. Located in the Pyrgos restaurant is the Selene restaurant, an multi awarded restaurant which serves dishes of creative Greek cuisine.

Coffee: Enjoy your coffee in the shade of trees in the traditional Kantouni in the central square or at the shade of the bell tower in Ouzeri Penelope. If you climb up to the top of the village you will find Franco’s where you will enjoy your coffee or your drink with a unique view.

Shopping: In the village of Pyrgos it would be good to do your purchases in Santorini local products, found  in Santowines, and in Santorini Products in village’s square.

Visiting Idea: Pyrgos village can be beautiful and atmospheric throughout the year, but nothing compares to the evening of Good Friday, where during the procession of the Epitaph in the village, the castle walls and roofs of the houses enlight by thousands of flaming cans. Certainly one of the most beautiful celebrations of this important day of Orthodoxy throughout Greece.
